Coffee O'Clock - JB, Again!

If anything we are never short on coffee shops here in JB. And today I bring to you a third portion of favourites, some more recent others not so much. The important things is, I keep coming back to all these places, and not just for my favourite drink of choice, but for the subtle attention to interior design, which, with me, is just a must for a truly captivating and enjoyable coffee experience. All the places below differ slightly from one another in experience, aesthetic and overall vibes, yet they have one essential thing in common, they brew excellent coffee.

Offee Cafe

30, Jalan Dhoby, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor

First on the list and my top coffee place for the last... I don't know how many months. Offee has become my thirds space, my second work place and a home away from home (away from home... 🇧🇬) . In addition to the coffee, I recommend the berries tiramisu and the chocolate chip cookie, which are absolute saviours on heavy work weekdays...

Space Cafe

G-11, Holiday Villa, 260, Jalan Dato Sulaiman, Taman Abad, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor

Space Cafe was dominating my Insta feed for some time, because the interior is just sooo nice. Sleek and minimal with special eye for details. Despite the choice of very 'cold' materials and finishes the interior feels cozy and inviting. The large glass facade opens to the main road, which brings a lot of natural daylight, as well as encourages people watching, which might be a fun activity while sipping on a flavourful caffeinated drink. Space cafe serves a large variety of fancy coffee drinks, my favourite - Prugna Cold brew coffee, which is a mix of cold brew, prune juice and silky smooth salted cream.

Sunday Morning Coffee Shop

124, Jalan Trus, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor

Sunday Morning Coffee Shop is not just for a Sunday morning, in fact it is a very nice lunch spot for any day of the week (more about their delicious food in another post). The space is small but charming. After ascending a very steep staircase, one is welcomed by a cozy Japanese inspired interior, which seem to really take pride in timber hand craftsmanship. The specialty is their drip coffee, I like their house blend best. Sunday morning studio specialises in developing film too, one may browse their collection of vintage film cameras, vinyl records and other trinkets and little collective decorations.

Tom&Danny Coffee @ Eco Botanic

72, 72A & 72B, Jalan Eko Botani 3/6, Taman Eko Botani, 79100 Iskandar Puteri, Johor

Ever since I moved office, I've been trying to discover a new favourite cafe in the area. Tom and Danny might just be it. Design wise, not bad, I like their use of dark finishes and led lighting to create a muted and gloomy atmosphere. The coffee is very good, they even offer a special coconut drink (coconut spiked with espresso shot), which is totally worth the price. Another favourite on the menu is a very cute looking cookie cup coffee (coffee served in a cup-shaped cookie).

Re-Patisserie

77, Jln Beringin, Taman Melodies, 80259 Johor Bahru, Johor

Re Patisserie is French-Korean inspired pastry cafe. With a large variety of treats to choose from, I reach out to this place to sooth my sweet cravings. With soft organic curves and an intricate play with lighting, this place is one of the most instagrammable in town. They release new pastries seasonably, the desserts are always beautifully decorated, one feels almost sad eating them. This place is a pure joy for the senses - sight and touch and taste combined.
