Furniture is what makes an interior space suitable for working, relaxing, exercising, etc.

The aim of this subject is to introduce students to furniture design, including the history of style, materials and construction techniques. Through research, exploration and experimentation students earn a greater understanding of both aesthetics and functionality and their importance when designing a unique yet adequate piece for everyday use.

TEACHING STRATEGIES:

Furniture Design, provides an understanding / appreciation for the principle techniques relating to aesthetics, anthropometrics, materials and technologies  as well as construction of prototypes, and how the various prototyping methods differentially affect design (both in concept and process). It is intended that the focus of this module be placed on an exploratory design process, from conception, through development, to final design.

The program consists of theory based lectures, tutorials and practical exercise and workshops.
