History allows one to make more sense of the current world. By looking at past economic and cultural trends and be able to offer reasonable predictions of what will happen next in today’s world.

The objective of this subject is to research different historical design movements and analyse what influence and impact they have had on the formation of contemporary design and trends. Obtaining historical knowledge, the students better understand spatial qualities as well as a certain choice of colour, material and finishes, allowing them to further develop design projects from brief through to final execution.

TEACHING STRATEGIES:

Design & Architecture History offers students an introduction to the diverse design ideas in Modern Architecture. Through a series of lectures, focused on different architectural movements and trends, the students learn to differentiate styles, as well as describe how they have developed, their core beliefs, and most importantly, how they relate to one another. By using appropriate visual materials and texts, the lectures introduce some of the biggest architecture and design names, the creators of the respective movements, and how these architects translate their ideas into architectural form.

The program consists of theory based lectures, seminars and practical exercise.
